What it is

The JoyBend Tendon Stabilizer is a patellar tendon strap: a slim adjustable band with a soft, raised silicone pad (the LockPoint™ pad) that rests on the tendon just below your kneecap.

It gives gentle, focused pressure on that one spot while leaving the rest of the knee open and free to bend. People wear it for the stairs, walks, the garden and a long day on their feet.

Size & fit

One adjustable size. Fits legs from about 7.5" to 13.4" around, measured just below the kneecap.

How to measure: stand with your knee straight. Wrap a soft tape measure around your leg just below the kneecap, where the strap sits. Not sure, or close to 13.4"? Email help@joybend.com with your measurement and we'll tell you honestly whether it fits before you order.

One Stabilizer fits one knee. For both knees, order two.

  • Close the band snug, not tight: one finger should slide under it.
  • Wear it while you're active. If you sit for a while, loosen it a little. Take it off at night.
  • If it pinches, tingles or leaves a red line, loosen it or move it slightly. It should never hurt.

Completely hidden under summer capris

I’m 62 and still care how I look. I refused to wear those bulky, ugly black knee sleeves that bunch up under pants and announce to the world that you're falling apart. This strap is so low-profile that even under fitted summer capris and golf slacks, nobody has any idea I'm wearing it. Lightweight, discreet, and no sweating.

Got up off the garden dirt unassisted

Gardening is my life. Last spring, I fell in the mulch because my knee refused to bear weight when I tried to stand up. I had to crawl on all fours to my patio bench just to haul myself up. I wore both straps into the yard this past Saturday. Spent three hours pruning roses and turning the beds, kneeling on my garden pad, and stood right back up on my own two feet. I nearly cried right there in the yard.

Five months in. Here's the honest version

I've worn these every day since July. Take it off and the stairs go back to how they were, I'm not going to pretend otherwise. Put it on and I'm down them one foot after the other. What's changed in five months is the walking. I do the loop around the park most days now, which I hadn't done in years. The second pair lives in my car.

Three sets of pickleball, no ice needed

Deducting one star because it only comes in gray. I'd take a black one for the court. Performance on the court is outstanding. I’m 68 and play doubles three mornings a week. Hard-court lunges used to leave my knees burning all afternoon. With this strap, that sharp front-of-knee impact is completely absorbed. Played three full sets this morning, walked home, and didn't touch an ice pack.

Played on the floor with my grandson

For years, I had to sit up on the sofa while the little ones played on the carpet. I felt like a spectator in my own family. On Sunday, I got down on the floor and spent an hour building blocks with my 4-year-old grandson. When it was time for lunch, I stood straight up without needing anyone to haul me to my feet. That alone is worth everything to me.

Passed the home stair test on day one

I’ve thrown away good money on internet products that refuse to honor refunds. When I saw JoyBend gave a full 90-day home Stair Test, I figured I had nothing to lose. It arrived on a Thursday. I opened it, put it on, and walked straight out to my front porch steps. I walked down one foot after the other without gripping both rails for the first time in five years. Kept the box, but this strap isn't going anywhere.

10 hours on concrete with zero ache

Commercial concrete floors will destroy your joints. By early afternoon, both my knees used to throb with a deep, burning ache that radiated right into my shins. I hated bulky neoprene braces because they turn into hot, sweaty sponges in a garage. This strap breathes, fits discreetly under my work pants, and never slips when I bend over fenders. My knees feel solid through my entire 10-hour shift.

Pushing Costco carts without leaning like an invalid

You know your knees are getting bad when you use the supermarket cart as a rolling walker. I used to lean all my upper body weight onto the handle just to take the burning pressure off my knees while shopping. Last week I walked through Costco for an hour with these straps on. Walked upright, reached items on lower shelves, and wheeled my cart to the car without stopping once to rest.

Looked like a gimmick out of the box

Taking off one star because when it arrived, it looked like a flimsy watchband. I muttered to myself that I'd fallen for another internet gimmick. Then I strapped it on and walked down to my basement workshop. Usually, every step down feels like an ice pick driving behind my kneecap. Zero stab. Just quiet, steady pressure. I hate admitting when I'm wrong, but this little band proved me wrong.

How it works

Support where the knee takes the load.

Your patellar tendon is the cord that runs from your kneecap to your shin. It works every time you climb, kneel or step down.

The Stabilizer's LockPoint™ pad gives gentle, focused pressure on that tendon, just below the kneecap. It's the same simple idea behind the patellar straps physical therapists and athletes have used for years, made slimmer and more comfortable for everyday wear.

The pad placed just below the kneecap, not on it

Find the spot

Place the pad just below your kneecap, not on it. About two finger-widths down.

Pressing the band closed around the leg

Close it snug

Press the band closed. Snug, not tight: one finger should slide under it.

Questions

Good questions, straight answers.

Where exactly do I wear it?

Just below the kneecap, on the soft spot where the tendon is, about two finger-widths down. Not on the kneecap itself. If you feel nothing, try moving it a little lower.

Will it fit my leg?

It's one adjustable size that fits legs from about 7.5" to 13.4" around, measured just below the kneecap. Please measure before you order. If you're close to the top of that range, email us at help@joybend.com and we'll tell you honestly whether it will fit.

Will it slip down?

The inside of the band has a ribbed silicone grip that holds it in place. Wear it snug, not tight: you should be able to slide one finger under it.

Can I wear it under my clothes?

Yes. It's slim and flat, so most people wear it under slacks, jeans or leggings.

Do I need one for each knee?

One Stabilizer fits one knee. If both knees bother you, order two.

Is it a medical treatment?

No. It's a support you wear while you go about your day. It doesn't replace advice from your doctor or physical therapist. If your knee pain is severe, sudden or follows an injury, please see your doctor first.
